One Year Later: Thriving Lawn and Enhanced Garden Beds at Adams St, Woodbridge, VA
Location of Lawn Renovation:
Adams St, Woodbridge, VA
Introduction:
Howdy, neighbors! Today, we’re excited to share a major lawn renovation and clean-up project we completed for our wonderful clients on Adams St in Woodbridge, VA. Year after year, they trusted us to fix up their property bit by bit, and MowCow was more than happy to lend a hand. As positive changes continued in their lawn, we were determined to keep delivering exceptional results. Here’s how we made it happen.
Problem “We need a Lawn Renovation”:
10/10/23 – Our client, who was already thrilled with their Lawn Essentials and Lawn Mowing plan, had a few issues that needed fixing. They had a bare backyard for years and a big bald spot in the front yard that did not help curb appeal. They needed a lawn rescue and fast! Earlier in the year, they mentioned, “Lots of bald spots, even with the treatments thus far. Love to hear options for this.”
6/4/24 – After the successful Lawn Rescue, our client wanted more. They were excited to have professional clean-up and mulch for the first time. They also noticed ivy creeping into their grass and wanted it gone, as this was a new issue for them.
Solution:
10/10/23 – Our crew went all out with an aggressive aeration and doubled up on our elite MowCow seed mix. We then applied a pelletized Bio-char & Organic Compost blend to boost the soil’s microbial activity, ensuring a lush, green lawn. Aeration breaks up compacted soil, letting water and nutrients get to the roots, and our custom MowCow Seed Mixture is perfect for filling in those bare spots. The fact that they were on our Lawn Essentials Lawn Care Program was a huge help!
From this angle, it’s very difficult to see, but in the before image, there are plugs from aeration and the light brownish-grey biochar pellets—boy, do these pellets work wonders. You’ve probably seen photos of black compost that covers the lawn, that is a different product we aren’t using. As you can see from the after images, bio-char does not require that much product to successfully rescue a lawn.
6/4/24 – We dressed all beds with a 2-inch layer of chestnut brown, triple shredded, hardwood, oak bark mulch. This included the front beds, trees, and shrubs. We hand-pulled weeds, removed debris, trimmed shrubs, and cut back perennials. The tree and shrub beds were professionally edged and sculpted for a clean look. We also cleaned up, weeded, edged, and mulched the bed in the back right of the patio and removed all ivy hanging over the backyard fence.

How We Did It:
Lawn Rescue:
- Applied a layer of new top soil
- Extra aggressive aeration
- Double seeding with MowCow Special Blend
- Bio-char & organic compost blend
Lawn Rescue After Care — Water, water, water:
We provided the clients with detailed watering instructions to ensure their new grass takes root and thrives. It’s crucial to water the seed and lawn consistently, as this step is vital for establishing a healthy, lush lawn. The client will continue with aeration and seeding this year, as a comprehensive lawn renovation often requires a couple of years to fully restore. Pairing this with our organic-based lawn care program will significantly enhance the lawn’s health and resilience.
Summer Clean-Up:
- Applied a thick layer of premium mulch to front beds and around trees and shrubs
- Hand-pulled weeds and removed debris from landscape areas
- Trimmed shrubs and cut back perennials for health and shape
- Professionally edged and sculpted beds for clean definition
- Cleared all ivy hanging over the backyard fence
